Calling all science teachers with single-subject credentials!
(Biology, Chemistry, or Geoscience)
Interested in adding a Physics credential? We can help!

The Physics CSET Institute is designed to assist teachers who are preparing to take the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) Science Subtest II: Physics. Our goals are: 1) to deepen teachers’ understanding of physics and effective pedagogy, 2) to enhance teachers’ future teaching of physics, and 3) to increase the number of teachers with Science: Physics credentials.

Dates: July 19-23, 2021
Time: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Location: Sacramento State (see COVID-19 safety requirements for participants below)
Cost: $750*
*Use promo code MSTI25 at checkout to receive $500 off!

The Math & Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) will provide the first 25 teachers with reduced registration fees ($500 off!) for this institute, PLUS exam costs for Physics CSETs and credential application fees.

In a 5-day institute, we can't cover all the physics concepts that might be tested on the CSET. We'll focus on these physics concepts: energy & momentum, electricity & magnetism, waves, and modern & nuclear physics. Don't expect a “traditional test prep” course where we lecture, and you memorize and work problem sets all day. We'll do some of that, but we'll also push you to develop your own conceptual understanding of the core ideas of physics through investigating phenomena, generating questions, developing models, and constructing explanations. Once you register, expect a survey from us asking you a few questions related to physics—we will use the results to help design the institute.

All Sacramento County COVID-19 Guidelines will be followed. Each person will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. We'll adhere to reduced room capacity requirements. Additionally, we will require either:

a) proof of vaccination against COVID-19, or
b) a negative COVID-19 test within 4 days of the start of the institute in conjunction with a daily symptom self-report and temperature check.

Institute personnel will be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
